Drabble Meme
Ganked from angelita26

In the comments, leave me the name of a character and a noun (place, emotion, thing, whatever). You can also specify a 'verse or story, if you'd like - my Masterlist is mostly up to date. It's only missing my RBB and Guess Who Is Coming to Dinner. I'll write you a drabble, somewhere between 100 and 300 words.

I'm apologizing in advance if it takes me a few days to answer prompts.

Prompt away!

Neal, syncope

the ficcage
This is in the Of Christmases verse.

Neal finally understood what Peter went through when he used to go undercover. The hours of waiting anxiously, hoping that everything went according to plan and trusting that everyone would come home safely at the end of the day.

But now, Neal was confined to desk duty as he had been since returning to work after his head injury last November and Peter was the one out in the field undercover. Neal had been waiting and waiting for more than 48 hours for his partner to come home safe from an assignment that had gone slightly off the rails.

Diana and Jones were out there with Peter and they were keeping Neal informed as best they could with texts and the occasional quick call but Neal had spent the last two days feeling impotent, restless and stressed. He had paced back and forth in the bedroom the whole previous night while El slept fitfully in the bed that should have held all three of them.

Finally, finally he got the call he had been waiting for, from Peter himself. The bad guy was in custody, the evidence they needed secured and he was on his way back to the office safe and sound.

When Peter came walking through the glass doors of the White Collar offices with Diana and Jones at his side, Neal sighed in happiness tainted with relief and stood up eagerly to greet his lover.

As he rose Neal’s knees went tingly and weak, his vision began to go grey and spotty around the edges, the sounds of the office around him hollowed out and his breath caught in his throat. As his vision continued to darken, Neal fought against it blinking hard, but his body betrayed him and he felt himself tilting toward the ground as everything around him faded to black.

When Neal opened his eyes again just moments later, Peter was hovering over him, worry and fear knitting his brows together. “Neal?”

“Hey Peter,” Neal replied softly, smiling in an attempt to alleviate Peter’s concern. “I’m okay.”

“You collapsed. You’re not okay,” Peter countered.

Neal pushed himself upright. Peter tried for a moment to keep Neal flat on the linoleum, but Neal brushed his hand away with his own and a defiant look. “I didn’t collapse. I had a syncope and I’m fine, really. I just stood up too fast.”

Peter scowled but took the hand Neal offered and helped his partner slowly up to his feet. “A what?”

“A syncope. I fainted. Passed out. Got horizontal momentarily.”

Neal’s stance was steady, his eyes were clear and focused and his speech seemed okay, but Peter didn’t want to let go of Neal’s hand.

Neal squeezed their entwined fingers. “I’m really okay. It was nothing more than a lack of sleep and too much bad office coffee.”

Peter nodded, willing himself to accept Neal’s words at face value. “Okay. Then let’s go home and get some sleep.”

“That sounds like a much better reason to get horizontal.”

Mozzie - Family
pooh_collector: managementpooh_collector on May 3rd, 2014 07:35 pm (UTC)
A bit of a character study.

Most of the people who knew Mozzie would call him reclusive, a loner, a guy who didn’t need anyone and who didn’t have anyone anyway.

But, that was actually far from true. The people in his life might be few and far between, but he was deeply loyal to them, he even cared about them in his own unique Mozziesque way. And, when one of those few people needed him, there was nothing he wouldn’t do to help.

If sometimes he went a little overboard, by say hiring a hit man, you could hardly blame him. He had been orphaned after all and losing anyone else that he cared about was unimaginable.

And that was why, despite having plenty of important things that he could and really should be doing he was instead lying on the floor with a five-month old Theo staring up at a mobile. Because Uncle Mozzie had a really nice ring to it and the kid needed him and so did Mama Suit, obviously. Who chooses a nanny from a resume and a couple of references? Ridiculous.

Mozzie knew a lot of things, memorized an innumerable number of quotes, kept the most arcane bits of information about the most unfathomable things neatly ordered in his head, but the most important thing he knew he learned long ago and far away in Detroit – family has nothing to do with blood or trees or legalities and everything to do with commitment and choice and love.

Peter, soothing

They were sitting in the back of the ambulance on the hard bench next to the gurney that Neal had refused to lie down on. The ambulance doors were open and facing away from the frenetic activity going on by the hangars, but Neal could still hear the flames over the rush of the pressure-sprayed water. He could still feel the heat of them despite the cold, snow-filled air. He could still see the orange red blaze framed by black smoke despite being enclosed by the metal walls of the emergency vehicle. The stench of scorched metal, plastic and …., burned in his nose and throat.

Peter was sitting beside him, talking quietly, saying something that Neal was certain would be reassuring if he was actually listening. But Peter’s words were lost in the cacophony of things Neal was sensing from without and enduring in his own head and heart.

Neal shivered hard from his feet through his teeth. His muscles were bunched so tightly that the vibration physically hurt, reawakening other aches and pains likely caused by being thrown to the ground by the initial blast and then his frantic attempts to pull away from Peter’s arms to try to get to Kate.

Neal felt Peter’s hand lightly grip his forearm. The touch was solid and grounding. It made him shiver again and sigh loud enough that Neal could hear it over flames. A tear rolled down his cheek, warm against his freezing skin, warmer than the blaze still burning all around him.

Then Peter’s other arm wound around Neal’s shoulder and he was pulled so very gently against Peter’s chest. Peter’s hands were on his back now, rubbing warmth back into him. Neal could feel Peter’s breath against his ear and the side of his neck. He could smell the musk of Peter’s skin instead of acrid smoke.

With painful slowness the tension began to ease from Neal’s body and the whirling thoughts in his mind began to settle and focus on the feeling of Peter around him, holding him, soothing him. The words of sympathy and assurance that Peter was speaking started to break through the other, more agonizing sounds, settling the tide of pain in Neal’s heart enough that he could allow himself to sink into Peter’s embrace.

Neal’s tears kept coming, his loss still a palpable weight clinging to every fiber of his being, but he wasn’t adrift and alone with his grief and his sorrow. He was anchored to Peter and Peter wouldn’t let him go, wouldn’t let him drown.

Neal, restless
pooh_collectorpooh_collector on May 11th, 2014 02:53 am (UTC)
Sorry this took so long. I didn't like what I originally wrote and scrapped it and started over.

Neal sighed, running both hands over his face and through his wavy hair. Then he stood and began pacing the small room for the hundredth time in the past four hours. His back and shoulders ached from the tension that had been coursing through him since early this morning. He sighed again. He had never been good at waiting, and he had spent so very much of his life doing it. Waiting to be old enough to get out of Saint Louis and away from the weight of his mother’s issues. Waiting for Kate to realize that he was deeply, madly in love with her. Waiting for his trial and then for his first four-year sentence to end. Waiting, he thought hopelessly, for Peter get him out of prison the second time. Waiting for Peter to find him after he’d been kidnapped. Waiting for the anklet to come off for the last time. Waiting for Peter and El to realize how very much he wanted to stay and be a part of their lives once he was finally free to do so.

And then he screwed up, got complacent, when the waiting for the thing he wanted most in life finally was his.

His restless wandering eventually took him back to Peter’s bedside. Neal’s partner hadn’t woken since he was brought back from surgery. And, El was still on her way to the hospital. It was snowing and had been since last night and the traffic from DC was horrendous. Neal shivered thinking about El driving up. An agent from DC had picked her up and was driving her in an agency vehicle, but after the events of the morning it was hard not to be afraid her.

Unbidden flashes of memory tumbled through his mind, white snow swirling, the BMW spinning, the sounds of glass breaking and metal tearing, the wrenching of the impact, the chill of the winter air seeping into the once contained vehicle.

Neal resumed his pacing, waiting for Peter to wake up and El to come home to them. A nurse came in, tried to get him to sit, to rest. He wasn’t hurt, just a few mostly shallow cuts and a couple of bruises. He didn’t need to rest, he needed to keep moving until he had his family back, until they were all safe.

He wasn’t sure how much time had passed when El finally entered the room and ran into his waiting arms. He held her tightly, probably a little too tightly and sobbed into her shoulder, so thankful that she was home and safe in his embrace.

The waiting was better with her by his side. Elizabeth took him in hand, made him sit and eat and when Peter finally awoke in the middle of the night, sore and groggy but smiling, El held Neal’s hand tightly in hers to assure him that his waiting had ended and he could rest.

FIC rated E for Elr
When it was Peter’s turn to choose, milk chocolate was always on the menu. He liked the creamy, mild sweetness. But, Neal preferred the slight bite of bittersweet chocolate. He loved how well it mixed with the tang of Peter’s sweat and the slight saltiness of Peter’s warm skin.

Tonight was Neal’s night. He started by drizzling the melted confection in zigzagging lines down and across his older lover’s body. Then perched over Peter on all fours, with a lascivious look in his eyes, Neal dragged his tongue slowly along the lines, slurping the chocolate and the taste of Peter into his mouth, occasionally stopping to lick his lips in the way that he knew drove Peter utterly nuts.

When he finished what he considered to be the appetizer course, Neal poured more of the bittersweet chocolate onto Peter’s nipples, completely covering the puckered, dusky red areolas. Here instead of just his tongue Neal would use his whole mouth to suck the sweetness off as Peter began to tremble beneath him. When the chocolate was gone Neal lingered, nipping and licking the tight buds until Peter growled his name breathlessly. Soup course complete.

Then Neal indulged in a light intermezzo, sucking Peter’s balls into his mouth, first one and then the other filling his senses with just the heady scent and taste of his partner sans the addition of the chocolate.

When Peter fisted his hand into Neal’s hair with a somewhat painful but still very pleasurable hold, Neal pulled away with a final hard tug to give back just a bit of what Peter had just given him.

For his main course Neal took the container of still melty chocolate and dipped as much of Peter’s rock hard cock as he could into it. Peter shivered and bucked at the contact from both Neal’s hand holding his dick steady and the warm confection. Neal took a moment, just a short one, since he didn’t want the chocolate to drip onto his silk sheets, to gaze at Peter wrecked and shaking under him before he slid his mouth over Peter’s cock, licking the underside teasingly and then sucking for all he was worth.

Peter thrust forward with a strangled cry, his dick sliding easily down the back of Neal’s throat. Neal smiled around Peter’s thick presence and put his hands on Peter’s hips to keep him from thrusting too sharply. Neal set up a quick rhythm pulling on Peter’s erection and teasing him with his tongue. Peter cursed and alternately mumbled words of love and adoration at Neal as he came closer and closer to the edge.

When Peter finally fell, and his cum splashed into Neal’s mouth, it mingled with the lingering taste of the chocolate. It was a one-of-a-kind flavor that Neal savored, salty sweet with just the right balance of lust and love.

Neal tumbled down onto the bed beside Peter, sighing in satisfaction. “You’re turn?” Peter rumbled. Neal could tell that Peter was already half asleep in the aftermath.

“Nah,” Neal whispered as he tucked himself up against Peter’s side. “We can save desert for later.”

Sorry this took so long!

Peter heard the crash followed by his partner’s surprised “Shit” from where he stood in the kitchen emptying the dishwasher.

In the living room he found Neal standing next to the fireplace, the shattered remains of Elizabeth’s prized Miss Rule at his feet. “Shit,” Peter concurred.

El was due home for the weekend from DC at any moment and Neal and Peter had been frantically trying to clean the place up. It had been a very busy couple of weeks, with stakeouts and eighteen hour work days. They had barely managed to catch a few hours of sleep and eat a few very late meals at the house. The layer of dust and the garbage pail overflowing with takeout containers was proof of their neglect of not only the house but of themselves, neither of which was something El would stand for.

It was likely from the lack of sleep, or maybe too much MSG, but they spent a long moment just standing there staring down at the remains of El’s prized art piece.

“Shit,” Peter finally repeated.

“I… I can fix it,” Neal said stooping to begin carefully picking up the pieces from the hardwood floor.

Peter considered Neal skeptically. “I don’t think even you can fix that.”

Neal looked up at Peter. “Well, maybe not, but I can forge a new one. She’ll never know.”

“You can’t forge a new one. We can’t lie to El.”

“We won’t have to lie. It’s not like she’s going to randomly ask ‘Did you replace my Miss Rule with a forgery?’”

“A lie of omission is still a lie,” Peter countered.

“That’s not what you thought when I was still on the anklet,” Neal argued in return.

They were so engrossed in their dilemma, and what to do about it, that they failed to hear the front door open and close again.

They did hear the sharply indrawn breath and the click of heels striding quickly across the living room floor. “What happened?” Elizabeth demanded, as she sank down next to the ruin of her Miss Rule.

Neal gently placed the pieces he was holding in his hand next to the others, stood and stepped away. Peter glanced at him, sort of a desperate ‘what do we do now?’ look and Neal shook his head. He was a conman and an ex-convict; he knew better than to confess to anything, ever.

Elizabeth stood back up, looked at Peter and then at Neal. “Someone tell me what happened,” she commanded like a mother who had just walked in on the aftermath of playtime gone awry.

Neal swallowed hard and fought against his instincts. Peter was right. They couldn’t lie, not to El. He steeled himself and opened his mouth to tell her what he’d done.

Peter saw the fierce look in his wife’s eyes. He knew that look. It didn’t bode well. El had leveled it at him only a few times during their marriage, none of them were good times. Then he glanced over at Neal. His partner looked a little pale and his mouth was open as if he was struggling to find the words to explain what had happened.

Before he even realized what he was doing, Peter’s instinctive need to protect Neal from harm sent him into action, like a man bravely pushing his partner out of the way of a speeding bullet. “Hon, honey, I did it. I was dusting. We wanted the house to look great for our weekend together, and I knocked it over. I’m so sorry.”

Peter was prepared for the worst, hell hath no fury and all that, but El looked at him, her eyes softening. “Oh honey, I know you didn’t mean it. It’s okay.” She took his hand in hers and smiled up at him. “Maybe Neal can make me a replacement,” she suggested with a wink.
